Digital Footprint
Your digital footprint is all the information that can be found about you online. The less information there is, the better it is for you. Colleges and employers often look up names online to see what they can find about a person. If the only things they find are a Facebook page with all positive things posted and a few random family pictures, you are more likely to get into a good college, or get the job of your dreams. Your digital footprint can be tracked when websites try to “get to know you”. The questions that they say are “personalizing the website for you”, are really taking your email, phone number, address, and full name, all of which is personally identifiable information. When you buy things online, people can take your credit card, as well. Students can acquire a negative digital footprint by posting inappropriate pictures and comments on social media. These can later be seen by people who could turn you down for a job. You could end up jobless when you're 30 because of a picture you posted at age 20. A positive digital footprint can be made by posting positive images, commenting only in positive ways, and being an overall good person online. Maintaining this positive digital footprint could help to make a better future for you.
